Harlan falls in tourney opener

The Hazard All-Stars scored eight runs in the second inning to pull away for a 10-4 victory over Harlan in the first game of the (11-12) Area 4 Tournament at Benham on Saturday.

Josh Burkhart and Christian Halburnt each had one single for Harlan’s only hits.

Caleb Baker surrendered six runs in 1 1/3 innings on the mound in the loss. Halburnt allowed four runs in the final two innings in relief.

Hazard will face host Tri-City today at 8 p.m. for the Area 4 championship. Harlan will play the loser Monday. The top two teams will advance to the District 4 Tournament.
