The Harlan tennis teams split a pair of matches to open the 2013 season.
Both the Green Dragons and Lady Dragons claimed wins against Harlan County in Tuesday’s season opener.
The Harlan girls squad picked up an 8-1 victory over the Lady Bears, including five wins in six singles matches.
Top-seeded Camille Browning defeated Hannah Huff 8-4. Kaitlin Bledsoe downed Jessica Stamper 8-1. Lala Zheng beat Sarah Miles 8-2. Shianne Burgan defeated Caylee Johnson 8-0. Jessica Phan knocked off Brittany Napier 8-3. Harlan County’s Brooklyn Massingill picked up an 8-6 victory over Yin Chen.
The Lady Dragons swept doubles competition.
The team of Browning and Phan defeated Huff and Stamper 8-2. Chen and Bledsoe won 8-3 over Miles and Napier. Zheng and Burgan downed Allison Blanton and Ashley Whitehead 8-1.
The Green Dragons also won 8-1 overall in the boys competition.
Harlan picked up wins in five singles contests.
Top seed Wes Farley defeated Caleb Bailey 8-6. Boone Allison knocked off Joey Eldridge 8-5. Trevor Pryor picked up an 8-6 victory over Nate Holcomb. Bitty Foster claimed an 8-2 win over Derrick Skidmore. Harlan County’s Jacob Cornett defeated Will Slusher 8-3. Michael Simpson edged Jacob Raleigh 8-5.
Harlan won the three doubles matches.
Farley and Allison defeated Bailey and Eldridge 7-5 in the tiebreak. Pryor and Foster knocked off Jake Dixon and Holcomb 8-5. Matthew Simpson and Logan Clark beat Ivan Hughes and Daniel Turner 8-2.
Both the Harlan girls and boys fell to Bell County on Thursday.
The visiting Bobcats edged Harlan 5-4 in the boys contest, including 4-2 in singles competition.
Farley fell to Ben Barnett 4-8. Allison dropped a 6-8 match to Kevin Osborne. Pryor lost 6-8 to Adam Miller. Foster fell 6-8 to Devin Moyers. Michael Simpson defeated Mark Calloway 8-3. Matthew Simpson won 8-0 over Jacob Sutton.

Browning fell 1-8 to Lauren Hensley. Bledsoe lost to Caitlin Brock 4-8. Zheng dropped a 4-8 contest to Morgan Robbins. Burgan fell 3-8 to Macy Epperson. Jessica Phan lost 5-8 to Leslie Saylor. Katie Hornsby fell 6-8 to Katie Endicott.
