Harlan claimed two impressive victories Thursday in the opening day of competition at the AAU state tournament, rolling past Buckhorn 78-33 and Dunbar 65-37 in the junior varsity division.
Ryan Clem scored 23 to pace Harlan in the rout of Buckhorn. John Smith and Stephen Brown added 16 and 13 points, respectively. Zack Goins tossed in six. Jeremy Halcomb added five. Casey Huff, Jon Graham and Robbie Curtis each scored four. Mark O'Neil added two. Ronnie Curtis scored one.
Clem scored 21 and Smith added 17 in Harlan's win over Dunbar. Huff tossed in 13. Brown added eight. Ralph Hamlin scored four. Goins added two.
The Cawood varsity team split its two games Thursday, falling 88-66 to state power Lexington Catholic before rolling past Russell 65-40.
The Cawood junior varsity squad fell 49-33 to Pleasure Ridge Park and 89-43 to Lexington Catholic.
The Harlan junior varsity team completes pool play today with a 9 a.m. game against Bourbon County. The Cawood junior varsity team meets Louisville Trinity today at 10:30 a.m. The Cawood varsity team takes on South Laurel at 1:30 p.m. All three games will be played at the Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington.
