There were no surprises in the girls grade school semifinals on Thursday as the top two seeds, Harlan and James A. Cawood, advanced to the finals of the county tournament.
Brooklyn Massingill poured in 23 points as the top-seeded Lady Dragons rolled to a 39-16 win over fourth seed Cawood in the first semifinal game.
Massingill had 10 points in the first half as Harlan (21-0) climbed out to a 23-10 halftime lead and never looked back.
Autumn Thomas scored six points to lead Cawood (13-7).
James A. Cawood (22-3) held off Wallins 33-29 to advance to the championship game.
Samantha Hardy scored 10 points, six in the first half, as the Trojanettes jumped out to a 15-10 lead at halftime.
James A. Cawood outscored Wallins 10-4 in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 25-14. However, Kiya Calton and Tabitha Kilgore scored six points each in the fourth quarter as Wallins (14-7) drew within four before falling to the Trojanettes.
Thursday’s title game will make the third matchup this season between Harlan and James A. Cawood. Harlan won each of the previous two meetings.
Harlan will play James A. Cawood at 7:30 p.m. at James A. Cawood elementary school, while Cawood will face Wallins in the consolation game at 6 p.m.

The county middle school girls tournament will begin on Friday as Cumberland will face Green Hills in the play-in game at Black Mountain Elementary School.
The quarterfinals are scheduled for Saturday at James A. Cawood Elementary School, with top seed Cawood facing the Cumberland/Green Hills winner at 10 a.m. Rosspoint will play Black Mountain at 11:30 a.m., Wallins will face James A. Cawood at 1 p.m. and Harlan will play Evarts at 2:30 p.m.
The middle school consolation and games are scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.
