A native of Harlan, he lived 30 years of his life in Ohio. He was retired from General Motors and was a veteran. He attended Safe Creek Church of God.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Mary Pate; three children: Ray Pate and Regina Thompson, both of Ohio and Roger Pate, Indiana; four stepchildren: Jay Yother, Michael Yother, Regina Harper and Scott Yother, all of Soddy Daisy; 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers, one sister, two stepbrothers and several nieces and nephews.
Funerals services will be conducted today at 11:30 a.m. at Safe Creek Church of God with the Rev. Kenneth Bolton officiating.
Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
The North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
