A native of Harlan County, he was self-employed as a carpenter and believed in the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Almon and Lucinda Creech Howard; two brothers: Almon Howard Jr.; and John Gault Howard; and one sister, Jamie Thurman.
Survivors include his wife, Hettie Morgan Howard, Tremont; four children; Negonia Wilson and husband J.T., Ohio; Ben Howard and wife Rosemary, Ohio; Jerome E. Howard and wife Mary Ruth, Indiana; and Stephen Howard and wife Brenda, Radcliff; two sisters: Callie Robinson, Florida; and Alma Thomas, Ohio; two close friends: Jennie and Ralph Simpson; 10 grandchildren: Jack T. Wilson; James Wilson and wife, Tina; Jason Howard and wife, Deborah; Travis Howard, Gennifer Howard, Stephanie Howard, Susan Soeder and husband, Rusty; Jerome E. Howard III, Sarah Howard, Anne Pourteau and husband, Mike; and six great grandchildren.
Visitation was Monday at Loyall Funeral Home.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the funeral home.
