He was a former chief of police at Evarts and was a coal miner at Yocum Creek Coal Company for many years.

He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Tackett; and three daughters: Wilma Hayes, Joyce Steines and Alene Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Tackett, Altoona, Ala.; four sons: Millard Ray Tackett, Charles Tackett and Joner Tackett Jr., all of Kentucky; and Bill Tackett, Wisconsin; three daughters: Linda Wynn, Mary Phillips, and Judy Blevins, all of Kentucky; three stepsons: Jerry Barnes, Grant, Ala.; Kenneth Barnes, Altoona, Ala.; and Randy Barnes, Altoona, Ala.; two stepdaughters: Dianne Barnes, Illinois; and Kathy Green, Fort Payne, Ala.; a brother: Charlie Tackett, Michigan; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation was Sunday at Village Chapel Funeral Home.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Ray Ford and Fred Hampton officiating.

Burial followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
