According to Harlan County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Danny Lewis, a juvenile was operating a white 2004 Pontiac Grand Am traveling east on KY 38. The Pontiac struck a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup driven by Kenneth Baird, of Evarts, before crossing the center line into the westbound lane and hitting a 2012 Freightliner owned by Lowe’s Home Center head-on.
Carl Naillieuz, operator of the commercial vehicle, and his passenger Joshua Slone were transported by LifeCare Ambulance to Harlan ARH Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Both men were treated and released.
The juvenile was transported to the Harlan High School football field by LifeCare Ambulance Service and airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center, where the juvenile was reported to be in critical condition.
Lewis is investigating the crash. He was assisted on the scene by Kentucky State Police Det. Mike Cornett. Officers from the Harlan City Police Department, the Harlan County Rescue Squad, the Harlan Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance and Harlan EMS.
No further information was released by the sheriff’s office.
