SOMERSET — The KCEOC Community Action Partnership won the trophy for greatest volunteer participation by a nonprofit organization during PRIDE Spring Cleanup Month, which was held in April in 38 counties of southern and eastern Kentucky.
KCEOC provides a variety of community programs, such as Head Start, in Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel and Rockcastle counties.
KCEOC recruited 673 Spring Cleanup volunteers, including Head Start students and parents, youth groups, church groups and KCEOC employees. They filled 216 trash bags and picked up 23 old tires and four junk appliances.
“Congratulations on your success here, and thank you for helping us surpass our regional goal of 20,000 PRIDE Spring Cleanup volunteers,” said Congressman Hal Rogers, who founded PRIDE.
Local governments and organizations now are gearing up for the region’s next cleanup campaign — Roadside PRIDE Month in October. Cities and counties will compete in population-based classes to recruit the most volunteers and collect the most roadside litter. PRIDE will assist with cleanup and beautification costs.
