The Kentucky State Police responded to an abandoned building in Cumberland after they were requested by Sgt. Silas Whitehead of the Cumberland Police Department to assist with a death investigation.
KSP said they received a call of a man who was found dead on top a building formally known as Big Lots or SEKRI .
KSP Public Affairs Officer Shane Jacobs said a preliminary investigation indicates that Brandon O’Neil Hall, 20, of Cumberland, was on top of the building attempting to steal the copper wiring which supplied electricity to the building when it was in was in operation.
Hall was pronounced dead at the scene by Harlan County deputy coroner Jim Bush. The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Kentucky State Police troopers Jimmy Halcomb, Jared Bogg, and Rodney Sturgill along with KSP Sgt. Jackie Pickrell responded to the scene.
