According to Kentucky State Police Trooper Jason Young, Chris Pace, 20, told him that Robert Williams, 24, pulled up in front of Pace's home on PVK Hollow Road and began yelling and cursing at Pace.
"Mr. Pace said he went outside to see what Mr. Williams wanted and they exchanged words before a fight broke out," said Young. "Mr. Pace said during the fight, Mr. Williams pulled a knife out of his pocket and stabbed him in the upper right arm. It was a bad cut through the biceps area."
Young said Pace's brother came out of the house with a gun in an attempt to scare Williams from the area, but no shots were fired.
The incident reportedly was the result of jealousy over a woman.
Young said Pace was transported by a private vehicle to Harlan ARH Hospital and later transferred to Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenn., where he was scheduled to undergo surgery.
Williams reportedly went to Harlan ARH Hospital and claimed he had also been cut with a knife, and Paula Goddard, who was with Williams also backed up his story, according to Young.
"Mr. Williams had on a shirt that was cut across the front, and he had a small cut on his stomach," said Young. "After myself and trooper Jim T. Whitaker looked at his shirt and wound, we came to the conclusion that the cut on his stomach had to be self-inflicted, because there was no blood on the inside of the shirt. I questioned Mr. Williams and he confessed that he made the small cut on his stomach, because he thought it would help him out in regard to the incident."
Williams was charged with second-degree assault and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center with bond set at 10 percent of $10,000.
Goddard was charged with falsely reporting an incident and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center. She was released on her own recognizance on Sunday.
