Kentucky State Police Trooper Bryan Johnson responded to a single-vehicle wreck on KY 522 at Putney on Friday which resulted in the arrest of two people.
Johnson said Laura Robbins, 47, of Wallins, was operating a 1999 Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV northbound on KY 522 when she entered a curve, lost control and struck an embankment. The vehicle then overturned on the roadway.
Robbins was transported by LifeCare Ambulance Service to Harlan ARH Hospital. A passenger in the vehicle, David A. Mitchell, 24, of Cumberland, escaped injury in the wreck. However, it was discovered he was wanted on three bench warrants — two in Bell County and one in Harlan County.
Johnson said Mitchell was placed under arrest. Subsequent to the arrest, Johnson said Mitchell was searched and a quantity of narcotics and cash were discovered on him.
Mitchell was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on charges of three counts of failure to appear, stemming from the bench warrants, second- and third-degree trafficking a controlled substance and possession of a prescription drug not in original container. Robbins, who was operating the vehicle, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, no insurance and several other traffic charges. Johnson was assisted on scene by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Mark Scott and Harlan City Police officer George Young.
The incident remains under investigation by Johnson.
