After helping to lead the Harlan County girls cross country team for two seasons, Kim Miller signed to continue her career at Asbury University on Thursday.

“I liked that it was a smaller school, but not too far away from a bigger city. I liked the small campus and how the students interacted. It was a place where everyone knew each other,” Miller said of her decision.

Despite running with the Lady Bears for just two seasons after moving from West Knoble High School in Indiana, Miller left a lasting impact on the girls cross country program. As a senior, she captured the SEKC, Area 9 and Region 7 championships.

“It has been a really good experience. I am grateful for my teammates and that I was able to finish my senior year with those accomplishments,” Miller said. “Running is an every day thing. You have to run when you don’t want to and push when it hurts. Most of all, you have to love it.”

“The thing that has always impressed me with Kim is just her personality. She is such a hard worker and cares so much about her team. She is just a joy to have around your team and a great influence for all of your kids,” said Vitatoe. “There is no doubt in my mind that she is only going to get better. It took her a bit to adjust to the terrain, but once she adjusted she ran really well.”

The Lady Eagles finished in second place, behind Brescia, in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last season.

“Kim is a really good runner. We are very excited to get her, and feel that she can come right in and help our varsity squad,” said Asbury coach Randy Crist. “The other thing is she just seems like a really good fit for Asbury. We are a Christian school with high academic standards, and she is the type of student-athlete that we would want.”
