Off-road vehicle enthusiasts from around the southeastern part of the United States traveled to the Black Mountain Off-Road Adventure Area for the third annual Kentucky Mountain Crawlers April Fools Toyota Event recently.

Kentucky Mountain Crawler President Ronnie Daniels said the number of visitors for the April event was down slightly due to the poor economy but added that the new permit requirements have not slowed the number of riders coming into the county.

“The permits sales have not affected our numbers. For most people, permits are not an issue,” he said. “They are used to paying it everywhere else, and probably more.”

The April Fool’s event featured riding on the Black Mountain Off-Road Adventure Area along with food, camping and raffles at the Verda Field.

Daniels said the Black Mountain Off-Road Adventure Area has a lot to offer for those driving trucks.

“It is an ideal situation because there are so many different ranges of trails,” he said. “There is something for just about everybody, from scenic views to Class 5 obstacles.”

While Daniels said numbers may have been down slightly due to the economy, he said there was still a good turnout for April’s event.

“Most people are wanting to get out this time of the year because they have been cooped up for the winter,” he said. “We had a pretty good turnout. There was really good weather on Saturday, and we had people from as far away as Florida,” Daniels said.

The Kentucky Mountain Crawlers’ next scheduled event is the annual Southern Shine Crawl on May 22-25.

“The Southern Shine Crawl is normally our biggest event of the year,” Daniels said. “During that event we still have riding on the park, but also have lots of events on the Verda Field.”
