She worked for several years at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Phillips was a paralegal for attorneys John & Jessie Doyal and other associates of law. She was self-employed for a while and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Church of God and enjoyed singing gospel music.
Phillips loved working in her flower garden and loved to walk and she loved her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leonard West and Etta "Ward" West; her first husband of 37 years, Jack Arthur Rich; and Ottis Phillips; one daughter, Mary "Pat" Alford; one son, Bobby Gene Coffey; five brothers: Hobert Rich, Bill Rich, Paul Rich, Junior Rich and and George Rich; and one sister, Opal Marie Davis.
Survivors include six daughters: Norma Seals and husband Bill, Ohio, Shirley Bowen and husband, Steven; Sue Belcher and husband, Rodney; and Donna Brandenburg and husband, Bill; all of Muncie; Nina "Toby" Morgan Wachob and husband, William, Anderson, Ind.; and Shaunda Grubbs and her companion, Bill Matthews, Missouri.; two sisters: the Rev. Ollie Rich; and Mary Jo Pierce and husband the Rev. Ralph Pierce; one brother, Bob Rich; 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Parson Mortuary in Muncie.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home with Sister Barbara Farr officiating.
Burial will take place Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Pine Knot Cemetery at Pine Knot.
