Pierce Donnan Hellams, Jr., age 60, died at the University of Kentucky Medical Center on Nov. 27, 2012. Born in Laurens, South Carolina on Jan. 18, 1952, Pierce moved to the Cumberland/Benham/Lynch community to work as the head librarian for Southeast Community and Technical College, a job that he greatly enjoyed.

Throughout his life, many relied on his willingness to listen and give comfort, and enjoyed the humorous stories he told about his early career in the restaurant business. Pierce had the satisfaction of seeing his Alma Mater, the University of South Carolina beat Clemson in football on his 23rd wedding anniversary, Nov. 24, 2012. He received his graduate degree in Library Science from The University of South Carolina in Columbia and his Bachelor’s degree in History from Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina.

Pierce is survived by his wife, Rebecca P. Hellams of Benham, Kentucky; his mother, Dorothy B. Hellams Robertson of Laurens, South Carolina; his brother, Robert Hellams of Sumter, South Carolina. Funeral services were private. Please direct expressions of sympathy to a friend who may need to hear from you.
