Police arrest 18 people on drug charges

Eighteen people were arrested Friday morining in the Tri-Cities area during a roundup by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office. Elizabeth Monalisa Floyd  was arrested by deputy Eddie Jones.

The Harlan County Sheriff’s Office began a drug roundup just after 5 a.m. in the Tri-Cities area Friday that landed 18 in jail.

A familiar face was among those arrested, Elizabeth Monalisa Floyd, who was featured on Diane Sawyer’s special “A Hidden America: Children of the Mountains,” which aired several months ago. Floyd was depicted in the film as a mother who’s fought a long battle with drug abuse.

Floyd, 46, of Cumberland, was arrested during the roundup on an indictment warrant for a charge of trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school.

Sheriff Marvin Lipfird said his narcotics detectives have been investigating the illegal sale of controlled substances in the Tri-Cities area for the past five months.

Assisting the sheriff’s office included police agencies from Cumberland, Benham and Lynch. Also assisting were members of the Harlan County Sheriff’s Chaplain Corps.

Others arrested in the roundup on drug charges included: Jimmy Ray Anderson, 27, of Lynch; Jonathon James Blair, 25, of Cumberland; Brandy Cantrell, 30, of Cumberland; Samuel Marcus Gaines, 43, of Lynch; Gary Warren Goins, 33, of Lynch; Pamela Louise Griffith, 45, of Cumberland; Richard Chase Grogan, 20, of Cumberland; Lauren Ann Hatfield, 24, of Cumberland; Charles Thomas Johnson, 37, of Benham; Phillip J. Johnson, 31, of Speedwell, Tenn.; Lisa Lewis, 41, of Totz; Leian Nantz, 34, of Cumberland; James Dean Parrott Jr., 30, of Cartersville, Ga.; Frank Robert Poblette, 41, of Putney; Christopher Shawn Raleigh, 23, of Lynch; Jodi L. Sexton, 38, of Lynch and Stephanie Diane Vaughn, 40, of Lynch.

In other police news:

n Marilyn Monroe Goldsberry, 38, of Harlan, was arrested by Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Mark Scott on charges of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, public intoxication, terroristic threatening, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing.

n Arcoma Petrey King, 39, of Cranks, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Jared Boggs on a charge of theft by unlawful taking.

n Pearl Anthony Cress, 45, of Gordon, was arrested by KSP Trooper Edward Abner on a charge of forgery of a prescription.

n Nicole Beth Palmer, 26, of Cumberland, was arrested by sheriff’s Sgt. David Williams on charges of receiving stolen property and theft by deception.

I would have been nice to see some kind of mention to congratulate the 2 boys from cumberland elementry for making allstate..Scotty Bailey and Blake Rutherford deserve at least a mention for such an honor...

It never ceases to amaze me. I use to read the news and never knew anyone listed, but now the faces are more familiar. I know one of these people arrested and she really wasn't much to start with. However, she does have a child and I hope her grandparents step in and take over. She doesn't even need to be released from jail. Judge Alred, forget 1st and 2nd degree and send direct to jail.
