Three young men have been indicted by a Harlan County Grand Jury for their alleged actions in vandalizing the Evarts High School building in October. Police are seeking one more person in the case.

Evarts City Police officer James Taulbee has charged and arrested Brent Curtis Raleigh, 19, of Cumberland; Randolph Scott Fields Jr., 18, of Verda; and Hobert Cornett IV, 22, of Evarts, in the case. They have been charged with third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.

According to the indictment, the men committed the offense of burglary when they knowingly entered or remained unlawfully in the Evarts High School building on Oct. 2.

It is also alleged in the indictment, the offense of criminal mischief was committed when they intentionally or wantonly defaced, destroyed or damaged the property causing pecuniary loss of $1,000 or more.

Evarts City Police Chief Lupe Blas said damage inside the Evarts High School building consisted of spray-painted walls and numerous broken items.

Raleigh, Fields and Cornett were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center with bonds set at $20,000 full cash. They have since been released on $50,000 surety bonds.

Blas said his officers are still searching for one other person they have an indictment warrant on, who is believed to be involved in the alleged vandalism.
