South’s Vigeant silences Bears’ bats

Harlan County was held to four hits Friday in a 3-1 loss at 13th Region foe South Laurel.

Austin Vigeant held the Bears to one run on four hits over 5 1/3 innings to earn the win. Stephen Simpson worked out of a jam in the sixth inning and recorded the final five outs to earn the save.
Harlan County scored its lone run in the first inning as Tyler Boggs opened the game with a double. Courtesy runner Sawyer Fields scored after consecutive singles by James Bond and Braxton Fields.
The Bears were held to only one hit over the final six innings, a two-out double by Tyler Dixon in the third inning.
Scotty Bailey was the hard-luck loser for the Bears as he allowed three runs on four hits in four innings. Conner Leisge pitched two shutout innings in relief.
Harlan County (24-5) closes its regular season schedule Saturday at noon at home against Letcher Central.
