If the Harlan Green Dragons are to advance farther in the Class A playoffs next season it will likely be behind a big and talented senior class.

“We seem to have at least one quality guy at every spot, and we have two at a lot of positions,” said Harlan coach J.B. Donahue said. “Depth wise, it is probably as good as we have been at the skill positions.”

Senior quarterback Ty Saragas is already the school’s most prolific passer and should pad those numbers this season.

“He has probably set every school record for passing. He has tremendous work ethic. His intelligence and ability to throw the football has enabled us to be a different offense in the past few years,” Donahue said. “I think the kids depend on him and rely on his ability.”

Demarcus Williams and Cody Logan are expected to share the load at running back. Logan led the Dragons with 530 yards on the ground, while Williams added 230 yards on 230 carries.

“They will both be running the ball quite a bit for us. They both had some good games last years, and we are really going to stress the ability to run the football,” Donahue said.

Freshman Cale Brock could also see time in the backfield.

Senior Dakota Morris will split time in the backfield and at receiver. Morris led the Dragons with 53 catches for 672 yards last year, and added 258 yards on the ground.

“He is kind of our do everything guy. Dakota has had a great career, and he is probably the leader on this football team,” Donahue said. “He is a kid that keeps his mouth closed and does his business. He is really the heart and soul of this football team.”

Senior David Allen returns at receiver after hauling in 41 catches for 411 yards last season. Fellow senior Eric Young will likely enter the starting lineup on the opposite side of the field.

“David has been real steady for us at wideout. He was there every week making the tough catches in traffic. He is fearless, and his work ethic has been a real plus for him,” Donahue said. “Eric is coming into his own. He has had a great off-season and gotten a lot stronger, and I think that is going to pay dividends for him.”

Donahue is also expecting contributions from Dawson Charles at receiver.

Harlan will boast a talented and experience duo at tight end as seniors Dalton Overbay and Ryan Jones will take over at those spots.

“They are both great blockers up front, and we hope their athleticism and ability to run will allow us to create some matchup problems,” Donahue said.

All players are referred to by by next season’s grade level.
