Two men were arrested and lodged in jail early Saturday following a stabbing in the Fairview section of Harlan.
Harlan Police officers Mike Ashurst and Britt Ross responded to 411 Rain Street at 3:45 a.m. following the alleged stabbing that occurred at 604 Rose Street. Ashurst said the officers were met in the street by Dwayne Harris, 27, Harlan, when they observed Harris to be bleeding heavily from his upper leg.
Ashurst said upon further investigation officers discovered Harris and his girlfriend, Kathy Abner, along with Christopher Yount, 23, Harlan, and Courtney Yount, had an altercation over $500 taken from Harris.
According to the release, Harris had been asked to leave the residence, but refused.
Ashurst said witnesses told officers that Harris and Abner were in a physical domestic altercation when Harris filled a bathtub full of water and forcefully held Abner’s head under the water. Ashurst said he was told Harris proceeded to the living room and stated he would do physical harm to anyone if they tried to leave.
Ashurst said Harris and Christopher Yount then began fighting after he attempted to get Harris to leave the residence. He said Harris then swung a belt at Yount and his wife, Courtney. Harris then “became out of control according to witnesses,” damaging a large amount of property inside the residence while attempting to assault Yount.
It was during that altercation, Ashurst said, that a butcher knife was obtained by Christopher Yount and used to strike Harris in the right thigh. Ashurst said this occurred after Harris attempted to assault Yount.
Harris was transported to Harlan ARH Hospital where he was treated for his wounds. He was released into police custody and arrested on charges of unlawful imprisonment, first-degree assault, domestic violence, second-degree burglary, third-degree terroristic threatening, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Christopher Yount was arrested on a charge of second-degree assault and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
The investigation is continuing.
