A man who was critically injured in a structure fire at Verda about a month ago has died. Raymond Fields, 55, died Wednesday as a result of extensive injuries he received as a result of the fire.
According to previous reports, Fields was badly injured when his residence at Verda caught fire. A passer-by saw the flames around 6 a.m. and reported the fire. The fire destroyed Fields’ residence and a Jeep Wrangler that was parked by the structure. Fields was transported from the scene by Lifecare Ambulance Service to Harlan ARH Hospital and then airlifted to Lexington.
Harlan County Emergency Management Director David McGill said Fields was later transferred to an Ohio hospital.
The fire has been under investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
In police activity:
* Trampus King, 40, of Cumberland, and Heather Brewer, 37, of Cumberland, were served warrants by Harlan County Sheriff’s Deputy Matt Cope on Thursday in connection with a January burglary.
According to a press release, the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation of a burglary at a residence located off of KY 38 at Closplint. The Bank of Harlan owns the residence. Brewer and King allegedly entered the residence through a window and caused damages totaling over $2,000.
The press release states that it was reported that upon leaving the residence King fired multiple shots into the air from a handgun placing several people in danger.
King was charged with first-degree burglary, first degree criminal mischief and first-degree wanton endangerment. Brewer was charged with first-degree burglary and first degree criminal mischief. King was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $30,000 full cash bond. Brewer was lodged on a $20,000 bond;
* Thresa Brock, 44, of Harlan, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Jimmy Halcomb on Thursday and charged with second-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension. Brock was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;
* Bobby Johnson, 24, of Harlan, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Trooper Jared Boggs on Thursday and charged with failure to comply with sex offender registration and sex offender IM/chat/social network use.
