Viola Shackleford Stanley, 82, of Evarts, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the St. Joseph Hospital in London following a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Harlan County, she was very active in her community and had served as a volunteer for many organizations, including the March of Dimes. She was also active with the Harlan County Homemakers Club, Evarts Extension and was a member of the Evarts Methodist Church.

Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde W. Stanley, Sr. and her parents, John Bailey Shackleford and Mildred Short Shackleford.

Survivors include three children, Sharon Estes and husband, David, Indianapolis; Clyde Stanley, Jr., Evarts; Kay Faulkner and husband, the Reverend Roy Faulkner, London; two grandsons, Roger Estes and Michael Estes; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 until 8 pm at the Evarts Congregational United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 pm Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at the Church with the Reverend Roy Faulkner and the Reverend David Gross officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
