Submitting a letter of resignation, Water Plant Operator Wendy Brashears, told council members she will work until April 19 during a meeting of the Lynch City Council on Tuesday.

Breashears said she is relocating to the Lexington area as a reason for her resignation.

“We had our differences and some arguments, but that’s like any other employee,” said Mayor Johnny Adams. “I don’t have any animosity towards her or anything like that. I wish her the best. She has given us enough leeway so we can try and find somebody else.”

Adams said the city’s sewer plant operator, Kenny Widner, has his Class III water plant operator’s license and can “handle the running of the water plant” until a replacement can be found for Brashears.

“I’ve got two other people taking training right now, which are interested in the position,” said Adams. “We just don’t have anyone with a trainee’s license who could come in and work under Kenny right now.”

Adams said he hopes to have someone in that position in the near future so that Widner is not overworked taking care of both the water and sewer plant operations for the city.

In other council actions, a proclamation was signed by the mayor declaring April as Spring Cleanup Month in Lynch. Adams encouraged all residents of the city to participate in the PRIDE cleanup.

A fundraising event was scheduled for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. The city will be selling tickets for Knickerbockers’ portraits to be held on April 12,13 and 14 at the old Lynch Depot.

“We’re selling the tickets right now and they may be purchased at city hall,” said city clerk Erica Eldridge. “They’re $10 each for a mega-package of spring portraits. You’ll get one 10x13, two 8x10s, two 5x7s and eight wallet sized photos all for $10. This is for a good cause and we hope everyone will want to participate.”

Police Chief Mike Nunley told council members he is looking forward to spring when he hopes their Neighborhood Watch program will begin.

Fire Chief Bill Goode and Maintenance Supervisor Chris Adams presented their reports. Financial Officer Bill Dean was unable to attend the meeting due to illness.
