A Big Laurel woman was sentenced in Harlan Circuit Court on Thursday to eight years in prison on drug charges.

Brenda Gail Turner, 54, was sentenced to seven years in one case on one count of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance and two counts of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance.

In her second indictment, she was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of second-degree possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both cases will run consecutively for a total of eight years in prison.

In other court action:

n Joy Bowlin, 29, of Wallins, was sentenced to one year in prison on an amended charge of complicity to second-degree trafficking a controlled substance. This case will run consecutively with another indictment for a total of six years in prison.

n Jonathan Blair, 25, of Cumberland, was in Harlan Circuit Court for a probation revocation hearing. After hearing testimony in the case, Harlan Circuit Court Judge Russell Alred revoked Blair’s probation.

Blair was remanded to the Department of Corrections to serve the remainder of his sentence of eight years in prison. He was sentenced on a charge of first-degree trafficking a controlled substance. A charge of trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school was dismissed in the 2005 circuit court case.

n Carla M. Howard, 26, of Mary Alice, was sentenced to five years in prison on two cases after her pre-trial diversion was voided.

She was sentenced on charges of three counts of second-degree forgery and one count of accomplice to third-degree burglary.

Alred said Howard admitted to violating her diversion and waived her hearing.

n Lacey Napier, 19, of Loyall, was sentenced to five years in prison after her pre-trial diversion was voided. Her charges included third-degree arson and two counts of first-degree criminal mischief.

Alred said Napier admitted to illegal drug use. It was also noted that she failed to pay her restitution as ordered on March 11.

n Ronald Davenport, 33, of Cranks, was sentenced to three years in prison after his pre-trial diversion was voided. Davenport was charged with flagrant non-support.

Alred said Davenport agreed that he violated the terms of his diversion by not paying restitution and child support payments as ordered by the court.

n Floyd Mitchell, 33, was sentenced to three years on an amended charge of second-degree trafficking a controlled substance.

n Kenneth Bennett, 46, was sentenced to three years on two cases. His charges included two counts each of second-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school and possession of radio capable of sending/receiving police messages.
