An Evarts woman and her daughter were injured in a single-vehicle crash Tuesday on KY 38 at Cotes.

Kentucky State Police trooper James Earl Hensley said Lora Kelly, 27, and her daughter, McKenzie Kelly, 6, were traveling east on KY 38 in a 2008 Pontiac G6 when the vehicle’s right side tires dropped off of the roadway, causing Lora Kelly to overcorrect, lose control and strike a tree.

Lora Kelly was airlifted by Wings Air Rescue to Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn. McKenzie Kelly was taken to Harlan ARH by Johnson’s LifeCare. The occupants were extricated from the vehicle by members of the Harlan County Rescue Squad.

Hensley was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Mark Gillingham. Hensley is still investigating the crash.
