Students at Harlan County High School dressed as coal miners Thursday as part of the school’s celebration of Spirit Week. Coal Miner’s Day honors the rich heritage of Harlan County’s mining history and its people working in the mining industry. Justin Harris, left, a senior from Big Laurel, Mackenzie Early, center, a senior from Cumberland and Hanna Saylor, a senior from Bledsoe, are seen dressed as coal miners doing research in the media center at the high school. JROTC students walk the hallways dressed as coal miners. School officials said approximately one-half of the student population participated in the event. Inside today’s Enterprise you will find an insert “A Tribute to Harlan County Coal Miners.”
