Hoping to promote shopping in Evarts while providing entertainment for the holiday season, Abner’s Hair Designs and the Tony Dean Family, of Pounding Mill, have collaborated to offer a day of music and pageantry on Dec. 15, beginning at 2 p.m.

The event is free and open to everyone in the county.

“Our Little Miss Christmas Pageant will begin at 2 p.m. on the Corner Cafe parking lot in downtown Evarts,” said Sharon Abner, owner of Abner’s Hair Designs in Evarts. “The music will begin at 4 p.m. with the Tony Dean Family, Amber Napier and Harvey Napier. This is the first time we have done this and we’re hoping it will grow each year and become an annual event.”

Abner said businesses and organizations have donated items to be given away during the event. She said there will be drawings every 30 minutes to an hour to give away these prizes.

“We’ve got T-shirts, caps, cups, poinsettias, lots of wonderful things to give away,” said Abner. “Everyone is so excited about this event.”

The Little Miss Christmas Pageant categories are birth to 1 year, 2 to 4 years, 5 to 7 years, 8 to 10 years, 11 to 13 years and 14 to 16 years. The winner of each category will receive a prize. The winner of Little Miss Christmas will be drawn from the names of all the winners who are placed into a hat.

The Little Miss Christmas winner will also receive a sash and prize.

“We’ll also have Rudolph, the Grinch, Santa and Mrs. Claus there talking to the children during the event,” said Abner. “We’ll have hot chocolate, apple cider, cookies and other treats for everyone. Christmas is a time for giving and we just wanted to give back to our community and help promote the Clover Fork area.”
