HCHS to host Black Bear Shootout

Harlan County High School will host the Black Bears Shootout on Saturday. The event will feature four doubleheaders, with the fifth- and sixth-grade contests first. The schedule includes: 9 a.m. — Wallins at Cawood; 11 a.m. — James A. Cawood vs Green Hills; 1 p.m. — Cumberland vs Evarts; 3 pm. — Rosspoint vs Black Mountain.

Purple Devils down Green Hills

Treyce Spurlock recorded 12 points to lead Wallins to a 51-14 victory over Green Hills in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action on Monday.

Lucas Boggs led the Falcons with six points.

Jared Hawkins’ six points lifted the Purple Devils to a 36-16 victory in the fifth- and sixth-grade contest.

Dylan Gross had 11 points to lead Green hills.

In previously unreported action, Grenn Hills fell to Red Bird 45-40 in seventh- and eighth-grade action, but knocked off the Cardinals 22-10 in the fifth- and sixth-grade game.

Joey Swanner fired in 19 points and Brendan Rutherford added 14 to lead Cumberland to a 55-31 victory over Black Mountain in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action on Tuesday.

Jake Bush tallied 13 points to pace the Tigers.
