Cats edge Skins in double-overtime

David Turner fired in 23 points and Drew Nolan added 20 as Rosspoint edged Cumberland in double-overtime in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action on Thursday.

Joey Swanner had 26 points and Andrew Creech added 22 to pace the Skins.

Garry Henson’s 10 points lifted Rosspoint to a 32-30 victory in the fifth- and sixth-grade contest.

Xavier Simmons powered Cumberland with 11 points.

Green Dragons sweep Middlesboro

Cameron Carmical’s 18 points helped Harlan knock off visiting Middlesboro 40-23 in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action on Thursday.

Josh Lawson led the Yellow Jackets with six points.

Kilian Ledford powered Harlan to a 35-27 victory in the seventh-grade game with eight points.

Patrick Bynum and Troy Barton each recorded 10 points to lead the Green Dragons to a 36-18 win in the fifth- adn sixth-grade contest.

Taylor Spurlock had 14 points to send Wallins to a 40-24 win in the fifth- and sixth-grade contest. Kobe Burkhart recorded 12 points to lead Evarts.

HCHS to host Black Bear Shootout

Harlan County High School will host the Black Bears Shootout on Saturday. The event will feature four doubleheaders, with the fifth- and sixth-grade contests first. The schedule includes: 9 a.m. — Wallins at Cawood; 11 a.m. — James A. Cawood vs Green Hills; 1 p.m. — Cumberland vs Evarts; 3 pm. — Rosspoint vs Black Mountain.
