Lady Bears down Letcher
The Harlan County Lady Bears bounced back from a junior varsity loss at Letcher Central with a 48-19 rout of the Lady Cougars in freshman action recently.
Lindsay Branson had 17 points and Kaitlin Evans added 16 to power Harlan County in the win.
The Lady Bears will return to action Friday at Bell County at 6 p.m. in the first game of a boys’girls doubleheader

HC hoops contest rescheduled
The Harlan County boys game against Perry Central slated for Feb. 2, has been rescheduled to Feb. 1. The 14th Region Commodores will travel to Harlan County for a junior varsity contest at 6 p.m., with the varsity game following at 7:30 p.m. Harlan County’s next contest will come Friday in a 52nd District doubleheader at Bell County.
Sweet 16 draws so air Jan. 25
The Draw Show for the 2013 KHSAA Boys’ and Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls’ State Basketball Tournaments will take place Friday, Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. (ET). CWKYT (Ch. 14) in Lexington will provide a live broadcast of the pairings, with a live feed available online at www.khsaa.tv.
Brackets with official times and pairings will be posted to the Riherd’s/KHSAA Scoreboard and the KHSAA website at the conclusion of the program. The 2013 Boys’ Sweet 16® will be held March 6-10 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, with the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet 16® taking place March 13-16 at E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green.
Cheer championships scheduled
The inaugural KHSAA Competitive Cheer Championships will take place Saturday, Jan. 26 at E.A. Diddle Arena on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Divisions have been created for all-girls and co-ed competition, with the winning school in each division at the regional level advancing to the State competition.
