A Lynch man faces a charge of burglary after an investigation by the Lynch Police Department led to his arrest on Sunday. Richard Huffaker, 20, was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and theft by deception.

According to Lynch Police Chief Mike Nunley, Huffaker goes by the nickname “Bobo.”

“On Dec. 23, the Lynch Police Department responded to a break-in complaint where some items had been stolen,” said Nunley. “Over the course of the investigation, we were following up on some leads which led officer Drew Wilson to encounter Huffaker and search a residence where Huffaker was staying.”

Nunley noted Huffaker gave permission for his residence to be searched.

“After conducting a consensual search of the residence, officer Wilson was able to recover some items that were stolen and hidden there — some DVDs, games, things of that nature. They were hidden and Wilson found them.”

After the items were recovered, police interrogated Huffaker.

“At that point, myself and officer Wilson questioned Bobo, at which time he gave a statement and confessed to the burglary and the items he stole,” Nunley said.

According to Nunley, Huffaker’s confession was not immediately offered.

“Even after we found the stuff at first he was saying he didn’t steal it,” said Nunley. “But after we mirandized him and conducted an interview, he decided to confess.”

Huffaker was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full cash bond.

In other police activity:

* Hubert Allen, 31, of Cranks, was arrested by the Loyall Police Department on Friday on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, prescription controlled substance not in the proper container, and three counts of non-payment of fines;

* Edward Farmer, 22, of Harlan, was arrested on Thursday by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of first-degree robbery;

* James Gross, 31, of Harlan, was arrested on two counts of probation violation by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday;

* Curtis Halcomb, 25, of Harlan, was arrested by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday and charged with unlawful distribution of a meth precursor and persistent felony offender II;

* Carolyn Thomas, 30, of Loyall, was arrested on a second-degree burglary charge by the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.
