Ray was born February 4, 1943 in Harlan to the late Frank Finley and Gene Barwick Cawood. He was a graduate of Harlan High School and the University of Kentucky. He was a Mining, Civil and Structural Engineer, Land Surveyor and Home Inspector. Ray proudly served his country as a Lieutenant in the United States Coast Guard. He was a Christian and longtime member of the Harlan United Methodist Church. He was active in many organizations such as the Harlan Rotary Club, Yocum Creek Masonic Lodge, Lexington Scottish Rite and was a member of the Honorable Kentucky Colonels.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, F.F. Cawood, Charles (Skeeter) Cawood, Dudley Cawood, and Floyd (Judge) Cawood; sisters, Virginia Stamatis and Lenarue Tarr.
He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Miriam B. Cawood of Harlan; his daughters, Holly Cawood of Nashville, TN and Ashley Cawood of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; his brother, Albert “Hap” Cawood and wife Sonia of Yellow Springs, OH; he leaves several nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be Friday October 5, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Harlan United Methodist Church
A celebration of Ray’s life will follow at 7:00 pm at the Harlan United Methodist Church with Rev. David Gross and Rev. Kyle Burnette officiating. Music will be provided by David Davies and Jeff Lunsford
Masonic services will be observed at 6:00 pm at the Church.
