Ruby Sweet, age 83 of Benham, KY passed into eternal life on Friday, October 26, 2012, at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. She was born on April 21, 1929 to the late Charlie and Sudie Brock Helton. A native of Harlan County and member of the Benham Methodist Church, Benham Garden Club, former member of the Benham City Council, and a two term member of the Eastern Star. Ruby worked as a floral designer for many years at Fields Florist and Crestline Flowers.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ben Sweet, Jr.; and a brother, Paul David Helton.

Ruby is survived by her children, Charles and Evelyn Sweet of Benham, Bill and Kathy Sweet of Maynardville, TN, Larry Joe and Judy Sweet of Benham; brothers, Charles Helton of Cincinnati, OH, and Dorsel Helton of Friendsville, TX; sisters, Thelma Lewis of Hyden, KY, Mourine Potite of Loveland, OH, Billie Sue Hensley of Mt. Healthy, OH, Margie Potite of Loveland, OH, and Judy Blanton of Loveland, OH; grandchildren, Charles Sweet, Jr., Lanna McKnight, Larry Joe Sweet, Jr. Candy Miller, and Shannon Turner; great grandchildren, Ben Sweet, Autumn Sweet, Keona Sweet, and Patrick Turner; and a host of family and friends who were blessed to know her.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of the Tri City Funeral Home on Monday, October 29, 2012, between the hours of 6 – 9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, in the chapel at 1 pm with the Reverend Jody Vansickle and Reverend Mike Blair officiating. Interment will follow in the DL Creech Cemetery in Cumberland, KY.
