
(Forefront) Ann Epperson and her daughter Sarah Hinkle, both of Big Laurel, looked at a large array of vegetables and canned goods, which were on display in the Laurel House during Fair Day on Saturday. Members of the Harlan County Extension Service judged for first, second and third place ribbons for food preservation baked items, garden vegetables/flowers, quilts and crafts.

Kicking off their centennial celebration, marking 100 years of service in 2013, a featured event of this year’s Fair was demonstrations to celebrate the rich history of folk-dance at PMSS. Peter Rogers, son of the late Burton and Mary Rogers, who were long-time directors at the school, lead the demonstrations.
