The 10th annual 4-H Safety Day was held Thursday at the Harlan National Guard Armory.
Presenters were Harlan City Police: Gun Safety; Harlan EMS; Division of Fish and Wildlife: Water Safety; Army Corps of Engineers: Boating Safety; Bicycle Safety: Farm Bureau; Harlan City Fire Department: Fire Safety and Equipment; Kentucky State Police: Drug information trailer; Harlan Sheriff’s Department with Harlan County Board of Education: DUI simulated goggles; National Weather Service: Weather Safety; Division of Fish and Wildlife: ATV Safety; Harlan Rescue Squad: Demonstration Equipment and Jaws of Life;
According to 4-H Agent Raymond Cox, approximately 470 students attended from James A. Cawood, Cawood, Rosspoint, Green Hills, Evarts, Black Mountain and Wallins elementary schools as well as Harlan County Christian schools.
The Air Evac Helicopter’s landing was the highlight of the event. Students were allowed to board and inspect the helicopter.
