Evarts native practicing law in Harlan
by Nola Sizemore
Staff Writer

Danny Lunsford, born and raised in Evarts, has returned home and is now a new associate attorney at Turner Law Office, located at 114 South First Street in Harlan across from the Courthouse.

A graduate of Evarts High School, Lunsford attended the University of the Cumberlands where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science. He attended the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Va., where he obtained his Juris Doctorate.

“I’ve always kind of liked public speaking,” said Lunsford. “I feel comfortable in front of a crowd arguing a point. I like critical thinking and taking positions and arguing for it.”

Lunsford, 25, of Evarts, said while attending law school he began thinking about the law and came to the viewpoint “that everyone, regardless of what they have done or what style of defense they need, defense, plaintiff or criminal, they all have rights and privileges that deserve to be advocated for in a court of law.”

“I think that’s important for everybody to understand,” said Lunsford. “A lot of times in the court of public opinions we hand down decisions on what a person has done or not done automatically and we forget they are people, regardless of what they have done. They have rights that deserve to be advocated for just like everybody else does. That part I think is really important for everybody to understand.”

Lunsford is the son of Dan Lunsford Sr. and the late Linda Partin Lamb. He was raised by his grandmother, Della Pace, of Evarts, from the age of 9.

Lunsford, while in high school, was salutatorian in his class. In college, he was proud to say he took part in a mentoring program for children who didn’t have an adult figure in their life. He was co-captain of the debate team while at the University of the Cumberlands.

In law school, Lunsford was chairman of the Mute Court Board, hosting tournaments and helping manage the mute court teams on campus.

“I invite everyone to stop by and meet me,” said Lunsford. “If you need an attorney, I’m here to help you. Appointments may be made and walk-ins are welcome.”

To contact Lunsford, you may call 573-9000 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
