Harlan County sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on Wednesday at Dayhoit that led to the arrest of two people on several charges, including possession of cocaine.
Grover Carlisle, 31, of Lexington, and Janice Collins, 18, of Baxter, were lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
Deputy Danny Lewis said the pair were stopped while traveling north on U.S. 119.
“The driver of the vehicle consented to a search of the vehicle. Harlan County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Ice alerted on the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle, a quantity of cocaine was discovered behind a panel near the front dash,” said Lewis.
According to Lewis, a small amount of suspected marijuana was located inside a paper towel that was found inside a cigar package. A package of rolling papers was also discovered inside the vehicle.
The driver, Carlisle, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, careless driving and license to be in possession.
Collins, a passenger in the car, was arrested by Deputy Chris Brewer and charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, public intoxication and possession of marijuana.
Carlisle and Collins denied ownership of the cocaine.
