The Eastern Kentucky Concentrated Employment Program and Mountain Comprehensive Health Care (MCHC) hosted a Benefits Fair at the Harlan County Extension Depot on Wednesday. Hundreds of unemployed and laid off miners filled the Depot hoping to find jobs and learn about services and help available to them. Laid off miners sat down and filled out applications for re-training classes available at Southeast Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Everett Denniston (right forefront), 39 of Cumberland and a laid off miner, along with Carlo Osborne (right back), 54 of Leslie County and also a laid off miner, talked with Annie Thompson (left), housing director with the Leslie, Knott, Letcher and Perry counties Community Action Agency in Hazard. They received information about the Unemployment Bridge Program through the Kentucky Housing Corporation, which assist the unemployed in making their home mortgage payments. Many other agencies were represented at the fair.
