Staff Report

Kentucky State Police Det. Jason Joseph is investigating an alleged stabbing that occurred in the Cranks community Wednesday.

Post 10 received the complaint and dispatched troopers to the scene.

Joseph said prior to the troopers’ arrival more information was received that one of the involved parties had fled the scene. The suspect vehicle was located on U.S. 421 at Cawood by Trooper Kenny Sergent. Sergent performed a traffic stop on the suspect vehicle and located the person (Charles Howard) allegedly involved in the stabbing.

Sergent requested EMS at the scene of the stop in reference to the man being injured to his hand. Trooper Danny Caudill and Trooper Rodney Sturgil proceeded to the scene of the stabbing and located the other party who had cuts to his face and head. Caudill and Sturgill secured the scene for EMS arrival.

The man from Cranks, Pearl Lewis was taken by helicopter to Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport, Tenn., for treatment. Howard was transported by ambulance to Harlan ARH Hospital. This incident is being investigated by Joseph.

KSP Sgt. Jackie Pickrell said no one has been charged at this time, as the incident is still under investigation.
