The Harlan County Lady Bears picked up a straight-set victory at Clay County in 13th Region volleyball action on Monday. The Lady Bears knocked off Clay 25-18, 25-16 to secure their third straight win.

Cara Middleton’s four points, one spike, two tips and one kill paced Harlan County in the first set. Keisha Mimes had one tip, one kill, one spike, one ace and four points.Rebecca Eldridge contributed one tip, one spike, one kill and three points. Breanna Dunson recorded three tips and four points. Whitney Stevens had one tip, one spike and two points, and Chyanna Harris added one point.

“Keisha played really well. She passed and spiked the ball well,” said Harlan County coach Donna Vicini. “The whole team played well.”

Stevens had two kills, two spikes, one ace and seven points to lead the way in the final set. Harris recorded two tips, three points and one ace. Eldridge contributed one ace and three points. Mimes tallied two tips and two points. Middleton had two points, while Dunson added one point.

Harlan County claimed a 21-14, 17-21, 21-10 victory in the junior varsity contest.

Katelyn Reynolds had one tip, one kill and two points to lift the Lady Bears to a win in the opening set. Lauren Lee contributed one ace and five points. Candice Huff recorded one ace and three points. Sabrina Simpson had one spike and two points, and Charleigh Mefford added one point.

Lee’s three tips, one spike, one ace and five points paced HC in the second set. Mefford had one tip, one ace and three points. Huff contributed one spike and three points. Sabrina added one tip and one point.

Lee had three tips, two aces and six total points to lead the Lady Bears in the decisive third set. Reynolds added one kill, one ace and two points. Brittany Clem recorded one ace and three points. Celina Hatmaker contributed one spike and one point. Mefford had three points, and Huff added two points.

Harlan County (11-7) returns to action Thursday at home against Knox Central, while Clay County (2-9) will visit Middlesboro.
