A Harlan man faces charges after an alleged stabbing at the Buttermore building on Main Street.
Brian Owens, 42, of Harlan, was arrested by Harlan City Police Cpl. Jeff Owens on Wednesday after allegedly stabbing Rick Turner.
According to a press release from the Harlan City Police, Sgt. Mike Boggs arrived a few minutes after receiving a report of a stabbing at approximately 6:30 p.m. He was advised Turner’s wife had driven him to the hospital and Brian Owens had fled.
Harlan Police Department officers and Kentucky State Police Trooper Jared Boggs surrounded the building and determined after an hour long-search Brian Owens was not inside.
An anonymous tip was received at approximately 8:10 p.m. that Brian Owens was at a residence in Fairview. Harlan Police Cpl. Jeff Owens responded and located Brian Owens hiding in a closet at the residence. Brian Owens was placed under arrest without incident, according to the release.
Turner was airlifted to Holston Valley Medical Center where he underwent surgery. A condition report was not available from the hospital Thursday afternoon.
Boggs was assisted at the scene by Jeff Owens, Harlan Police Chief Mike Thomas and Kentucky State Police.
Boggs is in charge of the investigation.
Brian Owens was charged with first-degree assault and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center.
In other police activity:
* Joshua Dunson, 34, was arrested by Lynch Police Officer Drew Wilson on Wednesday.
According to the arrest warrant, Worthy Dewayne Williams states that Dunson assaulted him causing physical injury.
Lynch Police Chief Mike Nunley said Williams had to be taken to ARH Hospital due to suffering a black eye and a fractured skull.
Dunson was also served with a separate arrest warrant for fourth-degree assault and terroristic threatening and lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on bonds totaling $14,000 secured by 10 percent;
* Anna Huff, 37, of Evarts, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of fraudulent use of a credit card. Huff was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond secured by 10 percent.
