The Cumberland Redskins scored the first four touchdowns to down host Evarts 28-8 in a seventh- and eighth-grade scrimmage on Saturday.

Chase Coker scored on a 25-yard run with 9:39 remaining in the first half to open the scoring, Coker added the two-point conversion to put the Redskins up 8-0.

Hunter Nease followed with a 70-yard touchdown run with 6:23 left in the opening half. Donald Kelly ran in the two-point conversion to make it 16-0.

Tyrese Simmons pushed the lead to 22-0 with a 75-yard scoring run with 3:41 remaining before the half.

Coker scored the Skins’ final touchdown with a 70-yard run just after halftime.

Ethan Baird scored the Wildcats’ only touchdown on a 5-yard run with 2:20 left. Baird added the two-point conversion to close the scoring.

Evarts opens the regular season today at home against New Harlan. Cumberland will host Fleming Neon on Thursday.

The Evarts Wildcats shut out New Harlan 22-0 in the fifth- and sixth-grade scrimmage.

Christian Jones opened the scoring for the Wildcats with a 28-yard touchdown run with 1:54 left in the first half. The two-point run failed and Evarts led 6-0.

Brendan Osborne scored on a 73-yard run with 7:02 left for the Wildcats’ second touchdown. Jones ran in the two-point conversion to push the lead to 14-0.

Jones tacked on the final score on a 45-yard run with 4:13 remaining in the contest. Jordon Steele ran in the two-point conversion.
