The Harlan Lady Dragons turned in a second-place finish in the Billy Joe Idol Memorial Tournament at Middlesboro over the weekend.

Harlan fell to Whitley County in the opening contest on Friday, before winning three straight on Saturday. The Lady Dragons defeated Barbourville and Leslie County before edging Harlan County 8-6 in the tournament semifinals.

The Lady Dragons opened the scoring against Harlan County with one run in the first inning

Madison Noe singled. She advanced to third on a bunt single from Amanda Longworth, and scored on an errant throw on the play.

Harlan County answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Kaitlyn Stittums walked. She advanced on a passed ball, and scored on a single from Katie Johnson.

Harlan regained the lead with a run in the third inning.

Longworth reached on an error. She advanced on a passed ball and scored on a single from Heather Holland.

The Lady Dragons extended their lead to 5-1 with three runs in the fourth inning.

Jourdan Ledford reached on a bunt single. She advanced on a Kaylee McNiel sacrifice bunt. Noe then doubled to drive in the run. Longworth followed with a double to score Noe, and Anna Karst also doubled to drive in the final run of the inning.

Harlan made it 8-1 with three more runs in the fifth inning.

Ledford reached on an error. McNiel also reached on an error. Alyssa Mills tripled to drive in both base runners. Noe then singled to drive in Mills.

Harlan County put together a rally with five runs in the sixth inning.

Stittims singled to start the offense. Katie Johnson reached on an error. Savannah Sergent drove in both runners with a double. Farren Clark tripled to bring home Sergent. Clark, Tia King and Jessie Johnson also scored in the inning.

Noe had a double and three singles to pace Harlan at the plate. Longworth contributed a double and a single. Karst recorded a double, and Holland, Ledford, Mills, Madison Brewer and Torri Mitchell each added a single.

Clark had a triple and a single to lead the Harlan County offense. Sergent delivered a double and a single. Bridget Robinson recorded a double, while Stittums, King, Sarah Evans, Katie Johnson and Jessie Johnson each added a single.

Brewer recorded three strikeouts in the complete-game victory on the mound.

Katie Johnson struck out five batters in four innings of work in the loss. Destinee Jenkins recorded one strikeout in three innings of relief.

Harlan fell to Middlesboro 10-1 in the championship.

Harlan County defeated Middlesboro and Barbourville in the tournament.
