Lady Dragons claim third straight win

After starting off the season with a pair of losses, the Harlan Lady Dragons have turned things around as of late. Harlan picked up its third straight win Tuesday with a 6-1 victory at Leslie County.

The Lady Dragons struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning.

Anna Karst first reached base on a walk. Heather Holland followed with a double, before Jourdan Ledford drove in both runners on a double to right field.

Harlan extended its lead to 3-0 with another run in the third inning.

Kaitlyn Jenkins reached base on a double. She advanced to third on a Madison Noe sacrifice bunt and later scored when Karst singled.

Harlan added two more runs in the fourth inning.

Torri Mitchell started the offense with a walk. Mitchell stole second base and scored on a single by Kaylee McNiel. McNiel later scored when Jenkins hit into a fielder’s choice.

Leslie County got on the scoreboard with a run in the fourth inning, but the Lady Eagles were unable to get any closer. Harlan closed the scoring with one run in the seventh inning.

Mitchell reached on a single. She advanced to second on an error. Mitchell scored when Alyssa Mills reached first on an error.

Noe had a double and a single to lead Harlan at the plate. Karst and Ledford each contributed two singles. Jenkins recorded a double, while Holland, Mitchell and McNiel each added a single.

Noe recorded seven strikeouts, while giving up just three hits in the complete game victory on the mound.

Harlan (3-2) returns to action Friday at home against Barbourville. Leslie County (0-1) hosts Clay County today.
