A Michigan man was arrested on Sunday on drug trafficking charges.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Kenny Sergent arrested Eric Clark, 29, of Flat Rock, Mich., at the Marathon gas station in Cumberland.

According to a press release, Sergent noticed Clark appeared to be “manifestly under the influence of some type of intoxicant.” After placing Clark under arrest, further investigation found Clark to be in possession of OxyContin and Xanax pills.

Clark was charged with first-degree trafficking a controlled substance, third-degree trafficking a controlled substance and public intoxication.

Sergent was assisted at the scene by Trooper Jared Boggs.

Clark was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center on a $7,000 full cash bond.

In other police action:

* George Hurt, 29, of Blackey, was arrested by the Cumberland Police Department on multiple charges.

According to officer Cumberland Police Department Patrolman Cody Williamson, “myself and Matt Cope of the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office went up to the house to serve a warrant on his brother, Elmer Hurt.”

Williamson explained Hurt had to be pursued on foot.

“I probably chased him 450 yards and caught him in a creek,” said Williamson. “I then took him back to the car, handcuffed him, searched him, found pills in his pocket, marijuana, rolling papers, stuff like that. Then I put him in the back of the car and shut the door and went back in the house to search the house.”

Williamson explained when he went back to his car to retrieve a light to search the house, he discovered Hurt had escaped from his car by crawling through the cage window. Williamson found Hurt about 350 yards away in the woods. Williamson apprehended Hurt a second time and placed him back inside the police car.

Hurt was charged with giving an officer a false name or address, resisting arrest, first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, third-degree escape, possession of marijuana, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, third-degree criminal mischief, tampering with physical evidence, public intoxication on a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree persistent felony offender, four counts of contempt of court, receiving stolen property, first-degree persistent felony offender, probation violation for felony offense and parole violation. Hurt was lodged in the Harlan County Detention Center;

* Heather Middleton, 24, was arrested by the Harlan City Police Department on Sunday on charges of theft by deception including cold checks and receiving stolen property under $500;

* Candace Williams, 18, of Viper, was arrested on Friday by the Cumberland Police Department on charges of receiving stolen property and giving an officer a false name or address.
