A woman has died of smoke inhalation following a Friday afternoon fire in Lynch.
According to Harlan County Coroner Phillip Bianchi, Marjorie Boggs, 81, of Gap Branch Road, was pronounced dead upon arrival at Harlan ARH Hospital.
Boggs’ son, Robert, also suffered injuries. He was treated and released at Harlan ARH Hospital.
Boggs, who lived with her son and daughter in law, died of smoke inhalation, said Bianchi.
A representative of the State Fire Marshal’s Office was on the scene late Friday evening conducting an investigation.
Smoking was the suspected cause of the fire, according to officials.
The home sustained heavy damages.
Lynch firefighters remained on the scene for several hours. Chief Bill Goode was unavailable for comment at press time.
In addition to the fire marshal’s office, the investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police and James Billings of the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office Task Force.
Lynch Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
Personnel from the Benham Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Tri-City Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.
