Harlan hung with defending 52nd District champion Middlesboro for three innings Monday, the final three innings weren’t as kind to the Green Dragons. Middlesboro reeled off 13 runs after the third inning to pull away for a 14-1 victory.

The visiting Yellow Jackets scored first, with one run in the opening inning.

Jake Brock singled to start the offense. Brock stole second base and scored when Brian Hale doubled to center field.

Harlan tied the game with a run in the third inning.

Caleb Hogue drew a walk to reach base. He advanced on a single from Jordan Turbyfill and scored when Corey Burns singled to center field.

Middlesboro took control with a six-run outburst in the fourth inning.

Hale reached base on an error. Lucas Crawford followed with a walk. Tyler Prater then singled to load the bases. Hale scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch. Hunter Collett drove in a pair of runs with a double to the gap in left field. Collett scored on a Matthew Mike sacrifice fly. Jesse Hoskins reached base with a single. Brock and Tyler Yoakum each drew a walk to load the bases. Hale drove in the final two runs of the inning with a single.

The Yellow Jackets added two more runs in the fifth inning to extend the advantage to 9-1.

Brandon Hale reached base first with a single. Prater drove in the runner with a double off the outfield fence. Prater later scored on a sacrifice fly to center from Mike.

Middlesboro ended the game with five runs in the sixth inning.

Yoakum, Prater, Brandon Bell, Brian Hale and Brandon Hale all scored in the inning.

Houge led the Green Dragons at the plate with a double. Turbyfill, Burns, Ben Abraham and Dylan McNiel each added a single.

Brian Hale paced Middlesboro with a double and two singles. Prater delivered a double and a single. Brock contributed two singles. Collett recorded a double. Mike, Hoskins, Bell and Brandon Hale each had a single.

Yoakum recorded five strikeouts, while allowing four hits and three walks in four innings of relief to claim the win on the mound. Brian Hale struck out four and issued four walks in two innings in the start.

Hogue struck out four batters in 5 2/3 innings in the loss. Tye Patrick pitched 1/3 inning of relief.

Harlan (13-8) returns to action today at Middlesboro (11-7).
