Harlan holds off Lady Jackets

The Harlan Lady Dragons held off a fourth quarter comeback attempt to claim a 51-44 victory over visiting Williamsburg in 13th Region action on Tuesday.The Lady Jackets got as close as three in the final minute, before Harlan pulled away for its third straight win.

A pair of free throws from Jordan Brock and Jourdan Ledford extended the Lady Dragons’ lead and Masie Charles sealed the win with a basket.

Ledford and Brock each had four points to power a balanced Harlan offensive attack in the first quarter. The duo helped the Lady Dragons to double-up Williamsburg 18-9 in the opening period. Ledford finished with 13 points to lead the Lady Dragons.

Kelly Cox and Torri Mitchell each had four points in the second quarter as Harlan pushed its lead to 11 points at the half.

Ledford had six points in the third quarter to extend Harlan’s lead to 45-31, before the Lady Jackets began to come back in the final period.

Williamsburg’s Tarrah Davis recorded 17 points to lead all scorers.

Harlan (12-13) will close the regular season Friday at home against Corbin in a girls/boys double-header. Williamsburg (5-24) will entertain Barbourville in its regular season finale on Friday.

The Lady Dragons fell 29-28 in the junior varsity contest.

Jesse Cochran had nine points to pace the lady Dragons. Callie Wilson recorded six points. Katie King had five points, and Kaitlin Jenkins and Shanae Thomas each added four points.
