Akins Excavating Inc. was awarded the Tunnel Hill Sanitary Sewer Extension Project at a low bid for $63,097 during a recent meeting of the Harlan County Fiscal Court.

Harlan County Engineer Leo Miller said with the completion of this sewer project all of Rosspoint and Tunnel Hill, along with the upgrading of the pump station at the Harlan County High School athletic complex will be completed.

“The project will begin at the governor’s discretion,” said Miller. “The particular project is just a little add-on at Tunnel Hill. It will finish sewer all the way to Rosspoint on both sides of the road.”

Other actions taken by the court included:

*Surplussed four Crown Victoria used vehicles and then awarded one to the Harlan County Airport Board. Sealed bids will be taken on the other three vehicles as a one-package deal;

*Appointed Mark Fork and Charles Bianchi to the Harlan County Public Library Board to replace vacancies left by Ronald Cox and Parker Boggs. These appointments are through Dec. 31, 2015;

*Approved a $1.3 million salary cap for the Harlan County Sheriff’s Office for 2013 and their 2013 budget;

*Approved a resolution between the Harlan County Fiscal Court and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for the resurfacing of various county roads at a cost of $100,000;

*Approved the fourth amended agreement between Operation UNITE and the county;

*Approved the Harlan County Clerk’s office salary cap for 2013 at approximately $3 million and their 2013 budget;

*Approved an agreement between the Harlan County Fiscal Court and CSX for the lease of real estate in Grays Knob at an annual fee of approximately $600;

*Approved a one-time donation to the Pine Mountain Settlement School for their 100th anniversary celebration in the amount of $2,500

*Approved paying a $10,000 commitment Kennedy made to a playground grant for the city of Cumberland and replacing those funds with coal severance fund for various district projects in 2013.
